Songs from The Originals Season 1 Episode 16: “Farewell to Storyville” Music Playlist

Did The Originals Season 1 Episode 16 leave you in a state of emotional turmoil? Don’t be ashamed if you cried your way through fifty tissue boxes. We definitely curled up under our covers and released some devastated sobs after the Mikaelson family therapy session came to a close with shocking result. After all, not only did we witness several poignant flashbacks of the Mikaelsons as children, but Rebekah left New Orleans — and her older brothers, Klaus and Elijah — for good. Apparently their motto “always and forever” had been tainted by their cursed existence and this was the only solution that allowed everyone to live in harmony. How could we possibly remain calm after such a painful ordeal? And just in case that wasn’t enough, the melancholy music featured in “Farewell to Storyville” plucked at our heartstrings and reduced us to even more tears!

“Down Under (acoustic version)” by NONONO: Plays when Klaus asks Rebekah what she wants. “I want a home. I want a family. I want someone to love me. I want to live,” she responds. Touched by her simple desires, her brother grants her the freedom to leave New Orleans and embark on a new adventure.

“Walkabout” by Augustines: Plays when Rebekah and Marcel bid each other farewell at the end. They reminisce about their romance and what life would have been like had he built her the house he set out to. They kiss each other goodbye. The song also plays when Rebekah drops by the bayou to give Hayley some friendly advice about her brother and to tell her that she’s leaving. As Rebekah drives out of NOLA in a red convertible — wind rippling through her blonde hair — Klaus rifles through a treasure box of memorabilia and withdraws the knight he carved for Mikael as a little boy. He stares at it, remembering his childhood days, and is overcome with affection for his younger sister.
